>This is the very first designation (1942), reserved for the geographic zone Pays d’Auge. The Calvados Pays d’Auge owes this designation to both its’ terroir and distillations means (double distillation via a traditional copper still) for having the maximum of natural qualities which creates the power and delicacy of a classy eau-de-vie: the subtleness of bouquet, the mildness of taste and its’ long finish, this persistence of flavor that lasts a long time after tasting.

Les AOC Calvados en Normandie

The AOC Calvados in Normandy

It pertains to all cider eau-de-vie fabrication originating from Basse Normandie plus several bordering towns of the Mayenne and Sarthe regions. In Haute Normandie, the calvados distilled in the Pays de Bray also benefits from the designation. The most used distillation technique is the unique column distillation.

It has a very original flavor thanks to the dominant presence of pear trees in this region.
